Spring Valley

Made up of many smaller communities including La Presa, Rancho San Diego, Dictionary Hill, Mount Helix, Bancroft, and Casa de Oro, San Diego's Spring Valley is a large and charming community in the East County part of San Diego County.

Spring Valley is named for a natural spring that is found within the county and used to be home to the Kumeyaay tribe. After that, Spring Valley was used by the Spanish conquerors for cattle ranching. Found 11 miles from the center of San Diego Downtown, Spring Valley covers an area of 13.5 square miles. The Sweetwater Resevoir is within Spring Valley, which gives the community a safe place to store water and provides residents with the Sweetwater Resevoir Riding and Hiking Trail which winds around the large reservoir.

Wonderful elementary and middle schools are in Spring Valley, provided by The La Mesa-Spring Valley School District. Elementary schools campuses such as Avondale, Bancroft, Casa de oro, Highlands, La Presa, Rancho, Spring Valley, and Sweetwater Springs are just some of the ten elementary schools in the area. There are 4 main middle schools in the area: Parkway Middle School, La Mesa Middle School, La Presa Middle School, and Spring Valley Middle School and 4 main high schools: Grossmont High School, Monte Visa High, Mount Miguel High School, or Steele Canyon High School, which are part of the Grossmont Union High School District. For those interested in higher learning opportunities, Cuyamaca College offers continued education.

There are many recreational opportunities and facilities dotting the area of Spring Valley, including Damon Lane County Park, Via del Parque Park, Lonnie G. Brewer County Park, Estrella County Park, Sweetwater Lane County Park, Lamar County Park, and Goodland Acres Park. One of the largest golf courses in the area is the Rancho San Diego Golf Course. For shopping, residents have the Rancho San Diego Towne Center, which caters to most of the needs of residents. However, some residents do choose to drive outside the neighborhood's limits for further shopping needs.
