Located in the northeast part of the city is Cortez, bordered by Banker's Hill, Core, Little Italy, and Balboa Park. Cortez can also be divided into two smaller districts: Cortez Hill and Cortez West. This area's main street, Tweet Street, houses many shops, stores and eating opportunities and the residential portion of the community includes a little bit of every kind of architecture, including old and luxurious Victorian mansions and high rise, stylish apartments and condominiums.
Cortez is located in the heart of the vibrant San Diego city center and there are numerous area attractions to take advantage of in the area. Cortez residents enjoy several recreational opportunities, as it is located right next to Balboa Park, the city's main park that hosts sprawling lawns and winding trails, and also close to such recreational facilities as Golden Hills Community Recreation Area, Balboa Stadium, Bowling Green, and Morley Field Sports Complex are all nearby.
Edducational opportunities abound in Cortez and surrounding areas, as many K-12 campuses can be found in surrounding communities and continuing education facilities such as the Associated Barber College, the Associated Technical College, California Western School of Law, Toussaint Academy, KIPP Adelante Prep Academy, and San Diego City College are also found nearby.
Cortez is also located nearby San Diego's main airport, San Diego's Lindbergh Field, which is served by numerous airlines and hosts hundreds of daily departures and arrivals to and from national and international locations.
